  • Unplugged the day after

I am pleased to say that my day of unplugged went quite well. The look of pure terror on the children's face when I explained that yes, that meant tv's, playstations, psps, AND cell phones was worth being electronic free for a day. I only wish I could have caught it with photos.

We got all the boxes that have been stored in the living room into the garage/boys room so that next week I can just back in and load them up. I also sold that pita of a desk that I really didn't want to move again. It was given to us when we moved into our first house and the sucker is huge. So huge in fact that when we moved here the only place it would fit was the garage/boys room. It wouldn't fit through a normal door. As most large pieces of furniture are want to do; it became the place for them to drop any and all junk. The chairs became something to fight over and the drawers became a place to stick their dirty socks. I guess because the laundry room (that you literally have to walk through to get to their room) was just too far away. Needless to say; I will not miss that thing.

I emptied out the storage closet and moved those boxes to the garage as well. My one problems is that a few months ago, Matt's parents lost their mind and thought it would be a great idea to bring these two airsoft guns that Matt had owned as a child to us. I hate guns with a passion. My first husband was an avid hunter and the only way I allowed the guns in my home was with a locked gun cabinet. Obviously, these are just BB guns, but I grew up where these things were given to children at the age of four and have seen the damage they can cause. I hid them where nobody would find them and yesterday Josh found them. That is my other issue with the guns. Josh is obsessed with all things military, which is great since his dad is a vet. The problem is, Josh simply wants to join the military so he can "go over there and kill people". Yeah, not so big on having any kind of gun in my house.

Matt is off on Wednesday and Thursday and I have a long list of things that he needs to get done. As is usually the case with moving; I do most of the grunt work (okay, all of it) and he comes in on the day of the move for the heavy lifting. I sometimes get a bit resentful that most of the stuff is left to me, but he works a ton so I know this is simply how it is.

The children are once again out of school. California schools hate me in February; two holidays this month. Ugh. I am out of things for them to pack and move which means I will spend the day listening to them discuss how bored they are. It is actually raining here and while I am enjoying it immensely, it means the children are stuck in the house. Yikes.

I made a run to Goodwill yesterday with the rest of the things that didn't pass inspection for the new house and am hoping to make one more run before Sunday. I still can't convince Matt that since we are back to sharing a closet he really needs to rid himself of some clothes. He wears the same five things all the time anyway, but he has more clothes than myself, Caleb, and Emily combined. Can you say "packrat"?

I am off to feed Emily some breakfast and take care of a few last minute details with regards to the move. Our broker has been less than informative on the few questions I had for her, so I am proceeding ahead without her answers. I would hate to be in the house with no trash service arranged and she promised to get back with me last Wednesday with an answer about a large bin or individual containers.

    Have a wonderful Monday!

    I'm glad things went well!

Can you sneak some of Matt's clothes out? If you haven't seen it on him/washed it in the last year take it out and have it "get lost in the packing".

Break out the board games for the bored children. HAHAHAHA! Or next time they say they are bored tell them that you have something they can do. And make them scrub something.

High five!!  I swear that we got everything out of our old apartment...but somehow the bulk of Tim's old, ratty t-shirts that he never wore anyway didn't make it to the new house. Funny...
