When live gives you lemons....
I say find some limes and mix up a good margarita. Oh wait, that isn't right.
Anyway, I am finally at the new house. It is pretty much utter chaos at the moment, but at least we are here. Yesterday was probably the worst example of how to move that I have ever witnessed, but it all worked out in the end.
As you all know, the first movers decided to delay the move by several hours. I found another "company" and they were scheduled for 8am yesterday morning. This is where it began to get ugly. The wonderful guys got to the area right on time with a very large moving truck. The problem was; they had to try and back up the entire side of the mountain just to get the truck up to our house. It took almost an hour and there was a point that they almost went off the side of a very steep cliff. It was at that point that Matt said enough and let them know we couldn't risk their safety or their truck trying to make the turn to get to our driveway. I hate that we couldn't use them because they really wanted to help us out. They didn't even want to take money for their time, but we insisted. Plan B was in place. I called the first movers, forever known as the jerks, to confirm the two pm move. No problem, we will be there at two.
Matt and I just continued to move all the smaller items from one house to the other biding our time until the two pm move. Two comes and two goes. No movers. We are beyond exhausted and still have all the large furniture to be moved. I call and am told that they were delayed at the first move and that they should be there in an hour. I am ready to just go get a Uhaul and do this ourselves.
This is where Matt casually mentions that one of the guys at work had volunteered his truck the week prior and he was going to give him a call. What?? We know someone that has a truck and we haven't called them already? Matt gets Tom on the phone and he promises to head over right after work. Um, YEA!!
Tom doesn't just have a truck; he has a ONE TON delivery truck that was the same size as the moving truck I had spent all day waiting to show up. In one trip they had almost everything loaded and we were done. If I wasn't already married I would marry Tom right now. He is my hero. He refused to take even gas money for his troubles, but I am planning on sending a gift certificate to his favorite restaurant so he can take his wife out.
The cleaning lady will be there at 9 this morning and Matt has one more run to make to get just some little stuff we didn't get yesterday. I am spending the day cleaning out boxes and finding a place for everything.
Our first night in the house was fantastic. I love it and will love it even more when I get everything put together. Have a great day!!
