  • Another day of mind numbing cleaning

So, last night was our normal date night. It is always fun while we are out being adults. The problem always comes when we get home and discover that the children have made it their mission to make as large a mess as possible. Ugh.

Yesterday was my normal laundry day, but Matt and I took Caleb and Emily out for a day of shopping and the laundry was ignored. We have been looking for a butcher block/kitchen island kind of thing for the kitchen. Our stove is on a wall all by itself and the kitchen just wasn't flowing for us. We figured if we put something next to the stove, it might work better. We began our quest for said item about two weeks ago. The first thing I learned was those things are expensive. The kind that Matt wanted ran anywhere from  300 to 400 dollars. For some glorified microwave stand...I think not.

I found one at Wal-Mart that looked good, but Matt felt it was too cheaply made to hold up in our frequent moves. I refused to pay more than 200 for one and the games began. I first went to my trusty Craigslist and found a few possibilities. We either decided they weren't the right size or they were sold by the time we called, so we were going to have to think outside the box.

The Salvation Army came to mind one day as I was driving by one of the stores. I know that we donate a ton of stuff to Goodwill that is still in good condition, so perhaps we would get lucky. I scoped out that shop a few days later and walked away with nothing. I did mention my idea to Matt and we decided to check out a few others downtown that were a bit bigger.

Out we headed yesterday and after lunch we zeroed in on our target. As we are walking around looking at the different furniture items to see if any of them could me made to work, Matt spotted IT. The exact island he had been drooling over for two weeks. He immediately gasps and calls my name. Then it happens, some other woman hears his excitement and beelines for the item. I thought Matt was going to die as he was forced to walk by his prize with little hope of walking out with it. I on the other hand have never been known to be passive and walked right up to the item and stood there until she became uncomfortable at my being in her space and moved on. SCORE!! It was less than 80 dollars and perfect. We grabbed the tag and ran to the cashier to pay. I swear I heard that woman muttering under her breath as I walked past grinning, pushing my prize out the door.

No worries though. I just handed her a card and told her to feel free to come by and check out my blog. http://www.momaroo.com/filtered_sunlight . Yep, told her my name was April and I would love to have her come by and comment anytime. (Next time perhaps you will let me make that phone call )

Matt then took me shopping for some much needed new capris. I scored two new pair and two new shirts. I also got a new pair of flip flops. I now have my fancy pair and everyday pair. Woohoo.

The sad part is, I have to spend all day cleaning due to my ignoring the house yesterday. Oh well, I am back on my positive energy in, positive energy out kick, so at least I am in a good mood.

Have a great day. I am off to do more laundry!!
