Daylight savings time sucks
There, I said it. You know you are all thinking the same thing. I went to bed a bit late and of course woke up what is technically an hour earlier than normal. I want my hour back damnit.
I went and got my new book last night. Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. So far I am loving it. I have to be really careful when reading books that deal with children with disabilities. I tend to get really angry when I read parts that hit too close to home. Do not even get me started on The Memorykeepers Daughter. Wonderfully written, but it was such an honest portrayal of what life was like for children like Emily back in the early sixties, that there were times I just wanted to throw the book across the room.
Anyway, so far I am loving the book. I just know I will get so involved in it that I will finish it later tonight or by morning and be angry at myself for not taking longer. That happens to me often. I tend to read quite fast and find myself having to get book way more than my budget allows. I did check the library prior to going out and purchasing the book. It was still on order and I was number 106 in line. I did not want to wait that long so a purchase was in order.
I am off to do a quick pick up of the living room and then back to my book. If you don't see me much today, you will at least know why. Everyone have a wonderful day. April, I like my worms well done and cheesecake for dessert would be great.

Happy Sunday!!

Lol.. you two are cracking me up. Have you ever heard the song "Fishing Worms"? Not sure who it is by, but very fitting for the situation, I think.
I had sort of a love-hate relationship with Memory Keepers Daughter. Like you said, well written but frustrating at the same time. I wanted to shake a few of the characters. Thank goodness things have improved.
Have you ever checked out Paperback Swap? I get most of my books from there. I've saved over $100 since joining in November, and I only use it occasionally. It doesn't usually have a lot of brand new books, but if you're looking for books that have been out over a year, it's a great resource.
@bluewingz - I had never heard of it. Thanks for letting me know. I am going to check them out.
Hope you enjoy the book. The Memory Keeper's Daughter was a good read too. Very frustrating, but I thought it was well written. My great great aunt (great grandfathers sister) had DS, and was born in the 1920's. It was the first time anyone in their tiny town had a child with DS and didn't put them in an institution. She lived to be 78 years old!! When we first heard about lucy possibly having DS my grandfather told me all about his aunt with DS and how they were never ashamed of her.. and in that time it was UNHEARD of for someone with DS to stay home instead of being in an institution! Hope you have a great weekend. And I agree, daylight savings sucks <3
@AbsolutelyNormalChaos61308@xanga - That is absolutely amazing. What a great family. Matt had a friend in high school that had a sister with Ds. He said that she never socialized with the family that they kept her in a back room of their house. This was in the mid 80's. When he went to his 20 year reunion, he ran into the guy and told him about Emily. The guy was shocked that she lived a totally normal life with us at home in full view. It is amazing how far we have come.
The Memorykeeper's Daughter was my airplane read (along with part of another book). Since everyone has already read it, guess I dont need to post anything about it to!
I still cant imagine handing over a newborn...
Daylight Savings Time totally sucks. Back to waking up and leaving in the dark! Jerks!
*adds The Memorykeeper's Daughter to the list of books to check out when I'm done with the current 'The Last Man' "graphic novel" series that Tim has me hooked on*
Wasn't there talk to getting rid of this whole 'daylight savings time' garbage a few years ago?? Why didn't we again?
