  • One of those days

Yesterday was Liz's birthday. This was the end of the birthday frenzy that begins in December and doesn't end until March. From December 4th through March 16th, we celebrate 7 of the childrens birthdays and Matt's as well. Mine isn't until May and poor Alyssa is stuck all by herself in September. To say that I am sick of birthdays would be the ultimate understatement.

So, to celebrate in fine style; Josh brought home a detention slip. Now, this detention thing really isn't a punishment for the child. Oh no, it is to punish me. Detentions are served the day following the parent being notified and they range from 30 minutes to one hour depending on the offense. He always seems to get these things on one of the two days that his dad can't pick him up. This means that I pick up Jake and Whitney and must drive back either within minutes of getting home or race over there at 3 and be in the back of a very long line to pick up Liz at her school at 3:10. I am not a happy parent.

This morning I had to race like a mad woman to the store to pick up cupcakes. Liz decided on Sunday around 9 that she wanted to have cupcakes for her class since her birthday was the next day. Great, but forgot to ask her teacher on Friday and you need their permission prior to just showing up with cupcakes. I, trying to be an understanding parent, told her to make the request yesterday and we would pick them up Tuesday morning before school. I swear, I must have been drinking. What a stupid idea.

Liz forgets we must leave early and is taking her sweet little time getting dressed. I am trying to not so gently remind her that this is her big idea and to get a move on. Mission accomplished and all the children are finally at school.

I take a look at my car and realize that it needs a good cleaning. I take Caleb and Em over to the carwash; it is the drive through kind and they love it; and have the car washed. They offer free vacuum's with a wash so I head to the stall and clean my car nicely. I figure Matt will be pleased and I did my good deed for the day.

I am almost home when my cell phone rings. It is the older kids school. This means either Whitney or Josh is in the office; AGAIN. Oh goodie, it is Whit. For some reason she has decided that PE is Satan's work and refuses to dress out hence she has been thrown out of class for the day. I handle that matter and think all is clear. Half an hour later the house phone rings. Once again it is the school. What in the world is it now? Well, Whit was sitting in the office awaiting her next class when she is caught using her cell phone. This is a big no-no and it is taken up for the third time. Now, I get to go up and pick it up after school. Oh lucky me!!

The phone rings for yet a third time. This would now be the aforementioned PE teacher. He tells me how crappy her attitude is and that she is failing PE. How exactly does one fail PE? What she doesn't seem to understand is; if she doesn't have a passing grade in ALL classes, she does not get to participate in any 8th grade activities. The big graduation dance is coming up and she will have to sit at home and watch her boyfriend attend without her. Ugh.

I am now on a rearranging spree to re direct my anger. The house is in an uproar and I am hoping to have it complete before Matt gets home.

Tuesday is an epic fail around here. Hope yours is better!!

Sorry your day has been so crappy.  Hope it gets better quickly!

omg - that does sound awful.  In my mind, things will be less hectic once my kids start school.  This post just reminded me how wrong I am!

That is a lot of birthdays in such a short amount of time.  (You can skip my birthday post.  I have no good info to give you.  And you deserve a break!)

Is it possible for Whit to improve her grade to passing in PE before the dance?

  • gwacemom

@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Oh no you don't. I have been making up stuff for two weeks to put in that post. If I can't have the real story, I shall make fun stuff up.

Yes, if she dresses out from this point forward, she should bring it up to passing. I am going to push that point home very hard today.

Oh wow!  I'm glad mine aren't that age yet lol!  I'm sorry your day sucked, I hope tomorrow is better!!

My weekend was a failure. (So much so that I opted to skip posting about it until my owm homicidial rage cools a bit and I can focus on the positives. If you don't hear from me for a few months? You know what happened. Please inform the others.) Just remember, when it can't get any worse? It can only get better. (And I still have the sleeper sofa here if Josh can't figure out that whole straighten up and fly right thing...I'm sure there's room for Whit, too, if comes to it... )

@filtered_sunlight - Sending out the notices now: "If you see a blonde woman climbing the tower with an Uzi; do not approach."

Sorry your weekend sucked, but I can't wait to hear about it. You know misery loves company. How about you just hop a plane with Meggers and we go out for  a Margarita?? I have some extra duct tape; the children will be fine.

  • filtered_sunlight

@gwacemom - You have no idea how tempting that is... Uhm...the plane thing...not so much the snipping thing...

  • der_lila_Stern@xanga

Well good, I am totally looking forward to it.  It just sounded like you needed a day off.  Or that Margarita...

  • gwacemom

@filtered_sunlight - LOL, I know what ya meant and you totally liked the sniper deal.

Can't the school reschedule a detention?  As a teacher I stress the notion all the time (to my students and to the parents), that the parents are our "clients" and we need to accomodate them.  What if Josh had a doctor's appt that day and if you cancel you have to pay a cancellation fee?  You better believe that either the school needs to reschedule or I would be asking them to pay my cancellation fee.  Of course they're not going to pay, so the rescheduling happens.

@shadowraven@xanga - I actually asked them today that if there was a detention in the future, could they schedule it during the school day somehow. The way that it is, Josh doesn't give a darn that he stayed a few extra minutes and seems to enjoy the fact that I have to make the extra trip. It has almost become a power thing for him. Thankfully, the understood my situation and have agreed to alternative times. Thanks for the suggestion!!

@gwacemom - You know, about three trips to the comic shop ago, I finally picked up this series..."The Last Man". A virus sweeps the world and kills all the males on the planet. (Save one guy and his pet monkey.) Chaos and craziness ensues, but I still think it's an entertaining thought most days... I don't think I have steady enough hands for the snipper role though. I'd be a better ninja...
