  • Lesson of the day

     A few days ago I wrote a brief snippet in my blog about some work issues that were rumored to be heading Matt's way soon. My dear friend Sarah left me a really nice comment; as she always does; and reminded me of a story that has often been told to me. What she said was;

            "I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys and the job situation.  I agree with your feelings 100%.  (I hate when people say that God will provide without attempting to do anything!)"

    Now, we all know that I am very open in my Christian faith, but I have always been of the mindset that God helps those that help themselves. Perhaps it was because from the time I was a young girl, my parents shared the following story:

    What More Could I Do?

    There once was an old farmer. His town was suffering from torrential rains that were threatening to flood the area. As the water continued to rise to the porch, his neighbors stopped by and offered him a ride out to higher ground. The old man declined stating "God will save me".

    Soon the water was clearing his porch and quickly filling up the first story of his farmhouse. Two boaters came by in their boat; again they offered him a ride to higher ground. The old man declined once more stating "God will save me."

    A few hours later the man had taken refuge on the roof of his farmhouse and the water was continuing to rise. A helicoptor flew over and they send a ladder down to bring the old man to safety. Again the man refused the help proclaiming; "God will save me."

    Several hours later the old man was standing at the Pearly Gates. He found God and asked him; "Why did you not save me? I believed, I had faith, and you left me to perish. God looked down at the old man and said; "I sent you a truck, a boat, and a helicoptor. What more could I do?"

    I guess the moral of this story is this; times are tough for many people right now. Sitting around waiting on God to send me a million dollars and an offer to become CEO of Microsoft probably won't get my family fed. Looking at the opportunities that He does send my way; the email from a recruiter listing some companies that are seeking employees; the phone message from a local headhunter that read my resume; these are the things that I need to be looking at with an interest. Perhaps this is my truck, boat, or helicoptor.

    Okay, off now. Have a great day!!

    That's a good story, thanks for sharing it.

    That is an awesome story!  Help often isnt in the form we expect, but it is there just the same.

    If you do get a million dollars and an offer for microsoft CEO, skip the CEO offer - it would be too much stress.  But I will celebrate the million dollars with some margaritas with you!

    I'm trying to inpart this wisdom on Tim. Not being religious myself, I've always carried the mindset of, "You have look for opportunities and take them or you're just standing still while the rest of the world is moving forward." Tim, like most men that I've met, would preferr if life just dropped his every wish into his out stretched hand. *sigh*
