Seriously; sarcasm just doesn't translate
Normally I do not let the comments from the mama blog bother me, but damn these people were harsh. In the last two days I have been called a bitch, told I had more children than I could handle, and had about thirty kids tell me they were glad I wasn't their mom.
Seriously; I am thrilled they aren't my kids. I sat down that morning with the intentions of writing something funny. The whole project thing had gone down the night before and I built the blog around that. Those of you that read it here got the fact that it was supposed to be funny; unfortunately, the same could not be said for many who read it on the front page. Whitney actually came up with a few of the ideas when my mind blanked. The kids thought it was hilarious.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that my list would create such hostility. I think from this day forward I will just put a disclaimer at the end of the blog in case it makes the front page. "Contents are 99 percent JOKE; if you have no sense of humor please move on."
:Rant over:
Tomorrow is a busy, busy day. Jake and Whit are headed out for one of their final activities as eighth graders. They are hitting up the local water park for the day. We were informed just this afternoon that we needed to provide drinks for the occasion. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. We are just going to leave early in the morning and pick them up on the way. I then have to head to Liz's school for "Dad's and doughnuts" day. No, obviously I am not her dad, but he has to work so I am her poor substitute. Following that we are headed to the local park for a picnic with Emily's class. She doesn't actually attend this year, but her teacher thought it would be fun for her and technically, she is part of the program.
I am tired just typing all this out. Next week is the end of school and I am so ready. They are having the eighth grade dinner and dance on Thursday and then the big day is Friday. I can't wait to see Jake's speech and watch both him and Whitney walk to get their diploma. Yes, it is only eighth grade graduation, but exciting nonetheless.
For a mother with far too many children to handle; I seem to be handling it pretty well. (Sorry, just had to rant one more time). The fact of the matter is this; I do have eight children and I am a busy mom. I don't have a nanny, a cook, or a housekeeper. I not only expect my children to learn how to pick up after themselves; I demand it. I do know the passwords to their myspace accounts, but have never felt the need to use them. I would not hesitate one second to do so if I thought there was some sort of trouble. I don't think that makes me a bitch, I think that makes me a mom. I value my children's privacy and if you asked any of them; with the obvious exception of one; they would all tell you I am a pretty awesome mom.
Sometimes it is overwhelming, but can anyone honestly say that isn't true for a mother with only one child? I am a mom and I love my job. I make mistakes and I have bad days just like every other person in this world. At the end of the most days though I can look back and think "yeah, I made it and things are pretty good." My kids love me, my husband loves me, and I have made some incredible friends by way of this blog.
I hope you all have a wonderful Friday. I most likely won't be around until Saturday! Thanks for letting me rant.

Don't worry about a bunch of moody teenagers with potty mouths. Pity their lack of humor and know that karma is a bitch.
Anyway, yay for finished with 8th grade.... they are going to be high schoolers! EEEK!
Have fun tomorrow!
Yeah, I went back and read some of those comments, and all I can say is, "Wow!" Some people really didn't get it. I can't believe they took it so seriously, and were so rude. Although, I've kind of noticed that about featured blogs, sometimes commenters can be really rude. Anyways, I totally agree with you on the passwords thing. It's our duty as parents to know what is going on with our children and to protect them. And the internet makes it much scarier world. My husband and I have already talked about that and plan on making sure we have access, if we feel the need, to our children's facebood/myspace/email/or equivalent, in the future.
I'm going to try and read the comments you got on that post. I personally loved that post! I emailed it to my mom, and to my husband! lol. I thought it was hysterical. I guess SOME people will just never get it, huh?
Must really stink to be such cynical grumps! Don't ya think?
I thought your post was HILARIOUS! I think those things make you an amazing mom. In fact, I would like you as a mom, so there haters! It's nice to have someone who loves you unconditionally and cares about your safety. And as for "having too many kids"? Who is anyone else to judge.
Next time someone tells you that you have too many kids, ask if they want to borrow some for a while (especially since the mother of 3 doesnt...
)!
Doughnuts? I totally could have been her dad for the day!! lol
Hope you will enjoy your Friday (because I seriously hope you arent up yet. It isnt yet 6am there...)
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Could I pick which ones they take?
Nope, just woke up and it is just past 6 here. I am off to survive the day!!
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Tis why I love you guys!
@gwacemom - as long as it isnt me that is taking them, I dont care if you pick! I want to pick my own! lol
I'm sorry ppl are being so rude.
The water park sounds fun. I want to go next month for my birthday.
You are not a bitch. I wish I could look at my kids myspace, just at least once a year ,to make sure everything is ok.
Have a great weekend!
Terri
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - LOL, you would just take Emily because she is so darn cute and sweet.
@gwacemom - No, I would take Whit too. I like to get dolled up every once in a while. And I know she would do a good job of it!
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Oh no; Whitney is my make up artist, can't live without her. I would loan her to you for a few hours though. LOL
@gwacemom - How about I just come visit? I need to visit the pacific ocean, anyway. Then you, Whit, and I could have a party. Go pick out some really cute dresses and let Whit do our hair and make-up.
*puts fist out* Awww, yeah! Welcome to the club, dear Crow! You've been called a bitch on Momaroo! *snicker* Sadly, I think my being away may have compromised my 'president' status of that club. *sigh* I'll have to work at it these next two weeks...
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - We would LOVE to have you come visit. The demons are gone for the summer; come play with us.
@filtered_sunlight - You will always be the president of my bitch club.
@gwacemom - I just might be able to make that happen! Now it is time to see about cheap flights...
