  • People are crazy

Yesterday I decided to put up an ad about the puppies. They will not be ready to go to new homes until Mid August, but I considered this a test run to gauge the amount of interest my odd mix of puppies might expect to receive.

I hit up my trusty Craigslist and began to write my ad. For those of you that aren't familiar with the Pets section of CL's, let me just say; those people are crazy. There are literally a handful of people that make it their days work to flag your ad for whatever reasons they desire. They will say that it is because you are a breeder or because you are selling your puppies or because you didn't dot the "I" or cross the "T". Crazy doesn't even cover these people. Yes, in the most literal sense of the word; I am a breeder. My two dogs mated quite by accident and therefore I do have a litter that must be found new homes. I have taken steps to ensure that my dogs never breed again, but that isn't good enough for those crazy folks.

Knowing all of those things, I spent almost half an hour working on my ad. I am a writer and my general thought process is; why use one word when twenty will work so much nicer? Matt always laughs at me because I think each and every ad through very carefully. My finest ad was the entertainment center I was trying to give away. I wrote it from the perspective of the center. Not only did it get picked up, but the ad received quite a few laughs.

So, I complete my ad. It is an honest and straightforward explanation of how these adorable puppies came to be. I was proud of my work and knew that I had done the best that I could in thwarting the flagging fools. Imagine my shock when not a half hour later someone creates a post that uses my exact wording in an effort to sell their own puppies. When I say exact, I mean the fool cut and pasted my words into their own ad. I was seriously plagiarized on Craigslist.

Matt thought it was hysterical, but I was beyond disturbed. I work hard on whatever I am writing, be it this blog or a silly ad attempting to sell something. I guess I should be honored that my work was deemed worthy of stealing, but not so much. No shock here; both ads were flagged because it looked as though I were pimping out my poor puppy. Oh well, there is always the newspaper.

Have a wonderful day and keep a close eye on your work. There are word thieves in them thar hills!

    Craigslist is insane!

I love it but it is crazy and especially the pet section. I do not think you will have a promblem finding homes for your puppies they are adorable.

That is pretty ridiculous that someone couldnt take the time to write up their own ad!  Of course you can put a lot of time and effort into it.  But it can also be quick and simple.  People are crazy.

That is pathetic, that someone would completely copy and paste your ad onto their own!  People ARE crazy!!

lol - that story was very funny to me.  To be honest, writing ads can be a little difficult, so I understand why someone copied yours.  But I'm still laughing about it.

I use craigslist from time to time and have never had any problems.  Of course I never use the pet section....

Ohh no!! I wrote CD, movie, and book reviews a few years ago for my college newpaper and someone stole one of my reviews and posted it on yahoo reviews. I know because my editor called and told me and I was so upset! I, like you, put a lot of thought into most things I write-- though my blog has been scatter-brained and not nearly as appealing as it was years ago. I'm sorry someone did that, but it is good that you realize they stole your words because they were hysterical. It's a sad world when someone plagiarizes on Craiglist. lol. Hope you are having a good day <3

@christygraves@xanga - LOL, Matt told me I should feel honored that they thought my idea so nice that they took it. Perhaps I am looking at this wrong, maybe I should put myself out there as an ad writer. I can see the ad on CL's now "Frustrated blogger seeks work. Will write ad for you, good enough that others will desire to steal it."

@AbsolutelyNormalChaos61308@xanga - That would have made me so angry. My reviews always suck so I never worry about someone stealing them. It just seems to be my ads they love. LOLOL

I learned to put as little thought as possible into CL ads for the sheer fact that they maybe flagged and you're gauranteed to have stupid questions asked, no matter how through youe ad is. *sigh* This does not instill confidence in me for the round of postings that I need to make.

@filtered_sunlight - LOL, I posted this television for FREE. Someone had given it to us and the volume started acting crazy. It was a fairly new tv and if someone had the inclination most likely could have gotten it fixed for fairly cheap. I explained in full detail what was wrong with it and the fact that we were offering it for FREE. I got more emails about that stupid thing; "have you had it looked at? what does the volume do?" how much is it going to cost to fix it?" I finally took the damn thing off and Matt dropped it off at the recycling center. It was a freaking free tv people, I don't  want to answer stupid questions. Ugh.

@gwacemom - LOL. I've had that happen a lot with free stuff. Or the guy that replied to my offering of a free office/desk chair... He said he was starting up a non-profit organization and needed all the office furniture he could get and would DEFINITELY!!! be picking it up the next day. I also offered him a desk we'd had sitting in the garage for a while and...never heard a word from him again! The chair went to the curb (Tim's ex-room mate's puppy had autographed part of it and the seat was well worn.) and I gave the desk away at the garage sale last month. The posting was such a waste of time.
