Sesame Street and Fox News
Put this one under the the "you can't make this stuff up" file.
Apparently Fox News fans are in a slight uproar over what they view as a diss to Fox News. Link
According to the article, Oscar the Grouch is playing the part of a newscaster. His girlfriend gets disgusted over some outpouring of positives and threatens to change the channel to "Pox News" further saying; "Now there's a trashy news show".
It seems that some fans of Fox misunderstood and felt that the show was being unfair to Fox News. Surprisingly, the PBS Ombudsmen Michael Gelter agreed and said that while broadcasters had the right to tell parents how they felt about Fox News, it was inappropriate to use the kids for that message. (I am paraphrasing his statement). Now, as my son pointed out, "trashy" in grouch terms is actually a good thing. Perhaps the Fox fans missed that subtle clue.
I say, have you not been watching other "children's" shows lately? Parodies are done from Spongebob to Rugrats. Does anyone else remember the Shrek movies? The underlying adult themes they placed throughout were what kept me watching and laughing.
So, do you guys think that Sesame Street crossed the line with their "Pox News" comment, or are there some people that just need to get over themselves?

I didn't realize that Oscar the Grouch had a girlfriend. I think Fox News people take their supposed news show far too seriously.
@scrambledmegsntoast@xanga - Admittedly, I didn't know he had a girlfriend until I read the article. My kids like Noggin far more than PBS. I agree about the viewers.
That is funny haha. Pox News, cracks me up.
@Paul_Partisan@xanga - I thought you would like that one.
LOL Fox news doesn't have a right to get upset as they're not a real news station. Of the 8,000,000 shows that slam them they attack Sesame Street, wow. Get over it people!
LOL. Because the Sesame Street demographic is SO going to jump on the anti- Fox News bandwagon. I remember when I was in kindergarten I was very involved in bashing various cable news stations.
Pshhh. Seriously? Don't they have better things to worry about?!
@whitetrashpoet@xanga - That was kind of my way of thinking. Is this seriously the biggest concern they have? I always had you pegged for a kindergarten rebel. LOL
No way, they didn't do anything wrong. I've heard worse. I think this is a major over reaction.
Count another vote for, "Get over themselves." Shesh. Have they been talking to the trolls lately or what??
@filtered_sunlight - LOL, you missed the trolls over on the Em blog. I deleted them as opposed to feeding them. One told me I was a hypocrite because I expected people to accept Em when it was obvious I didn't. Um, did they even read the blog? That was kind of the point of the whole thing. The other one called another person that commented a sleaze for being a young mom. I hate trolls.
@gwacemom - Seriously? Dumbasses.
And I thought I was bad...there's been a few times when I signed on in a crappy mood and probably took it out on someone that didn't completely deserve it, but at least I *read* the blog (no matter how painfully illiterate).
@gwacemom - Im surprised you didnt keep the young mom comment! lol. *runs away*
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - LOL, he/she/it was insulting another person on the blog. They were certainly not calling me young. Ya hag.
@filtered_sunlight - I missed this comment in my first go around. Me thinks I know of whom you speak. LOLOL
@gwacemom - lol. damn.
That's rediculous! The Simpsons have said FAR worse things... I dont like Fox News anyway!
@XDaemonessX@xanga - LOL, I must say I am not a big fan either. If they get so upset over what a puppet has to say, imagine how they will handle real criticism.
They need to get over themselves. Everyone knows Fox isn't "news" anyhow. Even 3 year olds. Durr.
Some people take things way too seriously!
How lame. Wait... Oscar the Grouch has a girlfriend? Whoa, when did that happen?!
@waking_up_older@xanga - LOL, apparently a few years ago. I guess even grouches need love.
Hahaha, who gets upset over Sesame Street?
I agree with your son, trashy in grouch lingo is a good thing. Some people really need to let the joy of the Lord into their hearts and lighten up.
And for that PBS Ombudsman to agree with what he should know is a misunderstanding of "Grouchland truth", is another one to file under "over use of political correctness".
People are really upset over Sesame Street? They must've run out of real things to be pissed off about.
I guess that makes Sesame Street a Liberal Socialist media arm of Barack Obama?
Ugh, of all the programs dedicated to children, I think FOX News is the worst.
